Contractor websites in Illinois

Illinois licenses some trades at the state level and leaves others to the cities. Roofers and plumbers carry state licenses and must show the numbers in their ads; electricians are registered city by city, and Chicago has its own general contractor license. We build Illinois contractor websites around whichever applies to you.

Illinois at a glance

Roofers and plumbers: your license number belongs in the ad

Illinois roofing contractors are licensed by the state and must put the license number and licensed name in every advertisement. Plumbing ads must include the plumber's license number too. Electricians have no statewide license; municipalities register them. Home repair and remodeling businesses need a written contract, must carry minimum liability insurance and must hand every customer the state's consumer rights pamphlet. A site built for Illinois puts the right number in front of the customer and links that pamphlet where it belongs.

What has to be on your website in Illinois

Licensed roofers must put their state roofing license number and licensed name in every advertisement, and on all contracts and bids. Anyone advertising plumbing services must include the plumber's license number in the ad and on vehicles. No ad rule applies to unlicensed trades.

"No person licensed under this Act may advertise services regulated by this Act unless that person includes in the advertisement the roofing contractor license number and the licensee's name"
