Why Being Insured Wins You More Jobs (And How to Prove It)

Most contractors think of insurance as a cost, something you buy because the state makes you, or because a general contractor won't let you on the site without it. But being insured is one of the most overlooked ways to win more work and charge more for it. Here's why, and how to make sure customers actually know you're covered.

Customers hire the one they trust

When a homeowner is choosing between two contractors, price isn't the only thing they weigh. They're really asking, "Can I trust this person in my home, and what happens if something goes wrong?" Showing you're insured answers that in one second. It tells them you're a real, established business, not a fly-by-night operation working out of a trunk. A lot of the time, that trust matters more than being the lowest bid.

A whole tier of work is closed to you without it

Property managers, HOAs, commercial clients, and general contractors almost always require a certificate of insurance before you can even bid, let alone start. No coverage means you're locked out of the bigger, steadier, higher-paying jobs and stuck fighting over small residential work on price. Getting covered doesn't just protect you, it opens a level of work you can't touch otherwise.

It lets you charge more

Insured contractors can charge more because they're selling peace of mind along with the work. "Licensed and insured" on your website, your truck, and your quotes is a premium signal. Customers expect to pay a little more for a professional who's covered, and they're glad to, because it protects them too.

How to actually show it

Being insured only helps if people know. Make it obvious:

When your website, your quotes, and your review system all reinforce "insured and professional," it compounds, and you start winning jobs you used to lose. If you are still getting the business set up, the order you do things in matters, and we went through how to start a Florida contracting business right, with the coverage in place before the first job.

The site is where most of that work gets done, and it is trade by trade. On roofing websites the workers' comp question comes up before anything else, so the certificate belongs next to the estimate. On websites for plumbers and HVAC website design the license number and a real local address in the header are what separate you from an out-of-area lead seller. For pressure washing websites, cleaning company websites and handyman websites, being insured is what gets you past the property manager who will not hand out a gate code otherwise. Every build we do has a spot for the license, the address and the coverage, because that is the block people read before they call.

One place for your coverage and everything else

This is where getting your insurance through us makes sense. We already build your website and run your marketing, so we know your trade inside and out, no explaining your business to a call center. We shop multiple carriers to get you the right coverage at the right price, and we help you turn "fully insured" into a selling point across your whole online presence. See our insurance for tradespeople page, or the full list of what's included in the plan.

Most of the contractors we do this for work the Gulf Coast, so the market pages are the fastest way to see what a build looks like where you work: contractor websites in Sarasota, contractor websites in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Venice, North Port, Tampa and St. Petersburg. The offer is open to contractors anywhere in the United States; those pages just show the local detail.
